The Elephant in the Music Room
Jul 03, 2021So first thing, let’s address the elephant in the music room- choosing to go on a music journey is TOUGH! There is no road map, no tried-and-true formula and in a lot of cases, no job interview. You will hear “no” way more than “yes” and a lot of times we can feel alone and like what we are doing is not making any impact. If you relate to any of this, that means you ARE actually doing it because it is all a part of the pursuit of music.
So why do we do it? What keeps us pushing through the disappointments? I believe it comes down to one very simple but powerful thing. We do it because we HAVE to do it, because it burns inside us like a fire.
I believe that those of us called to pursue music are doing it because we know it is one of the reasons God put us on the earth. The reason we keep getting up every day and trying our hardest, because we know that it matters and what we are doing is important.
The hardest step in any journey is the first one, so whatever you might feel insecure or scared to do today, I want to encourage you to go for it. Send that DM, finish that lyric, post that video, upload that song. There is only one way we can ensure our music WON’T get heard.. and that is by leaving it on our hard drives.
Many times we won’t get the outcome we are after, but that is all part of it. Each thing we do leads to the next, and those of us who can keep moving to the next thing WILL see growth.
Getting to the mountain top does not happen overnight and it does not happen without building up a lot of strength. My encouragement to you is this- Whatever that thing is that is holding you back on your music journey, it is not from God. Whether it’s fear, insecurity, comparison etc. God does not give us any of that. Lay that all down and go for it.
You can do this. Take the first step and keep moving forward. It will be tough but it will be worth it.
